Local Law Enforcement
Roughly fifty automobiles have been marked with what appears to be human blood in the German city of Hanau close to Frankfurt, police confirm authorities.
Vehicles, walls and mailboxes were vandalized, in some cases with prohibited symbols, they stated in a official communication.
Law enforcement say they were contacted during the night on Wednesday, when a man discovered that a car in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been smeared with a reddish-hued fluid.
The fluid had been placed in the form of a banned symbol, they reported.
Police then located numerous other smeared cars and residential walls in the nearby vicinity.
These symbols are illegal in Germany under laws outlawing the visible presentation of Nazi symbols.
Police say preliminary tests suggest the fluid was most likely blood from a person.
"There is still no clue as to its source; investigators are not yet cognizant of any harm in association with the incident," they added.
City officials stated they were trying "to unravel the case" and have appealed to the community for tips.
A high-ranking official commented the attack rendered him speechless and had to be solved promptly.
"This event strikes at the very heart of Hanau and revives the pain of the far-right attack in 2020," he wrote on online, mentioning the murder of nine individuals by a shooter focusing on residents of foreign heritage in five years prior.
