Larian Studios Announce a Fresh Divinity, Calling it Their Biggest RPG Yet

The speculation about the recent awards show was significant, particularly after host Geoff Keighley shared an enigmatic photo of a strange statue. The mystery has been revealed. The acclaimed developer is creating a fresh Divinity game.

Announced as Divinity, the game was showcased with a daring trailer packed with intense imagery, from a figure engulfed in flames to scenes of revelry and the literal descent into chaos.

Moving Beyond Original Sin

For those hoping for Divinity Original Sin 3, this is not that. Larian warned that a third Original Sin game to its critically acclaimed RPGs is not being worked on now.

That said, the developer described this new Divinity as a next chapter of the core franchise. This phrasing implies that the team could be building a more action-oriented experience rather than another tactical title. Currently, we can only guess, as only a cinematic trailer is available.

The Legacy of Divinity

The Divinity series is highly rated and arguably it pioneered the contemporary revival of deep computer role-playing games. These games are known for detailed worlds, branching plots, and complex character building—elements that recently were perfected in games like Baldur's Gate 3.

While its world is familiar fare, what truly sets Divinity apart is the immense freedom given to the player.

In contrast to modern RPGs have pared back options, Divinity is full of unique possibilities that are viable if you're playing as a distinct build with a specific history of choices.

The series is also wonderfully permissive, letting players to experiment in narrative and gameplay. Most missions can be completed in a variety of manners, sometimes in surprising fashion.

  • You might progress the story because you remembered something a non-human character said.
  • Or, you could defeat a foe by using the world itself in a unorthodox way.

More to Come

It is these creative systems that allow people to label games like Divinity Original Sin 2 as among the greatest role-playing games in history. Now, players can get ready for more where that came from in this legendary franchise.
