The renowned publisher has appointed a seasoned producer from the creators of Apex Legends to oversee the development team at 31st Union, which is currently crafting the anticipated over-the-shoulder action-packed title known as this innovative game.
Management Transition Comes After Mixed Response
The new appointee assumes the role of studio head at 31st Union following the dismissal of former leader the ex-Sledgehammer Games executive, who was removed from his post due to Project Ethos' lackluster early showing last autumn.
Recently, the company's top executive David Ismailer updated staff about this organizational change through an internal memo, which emphasized that playtesting had revealed the need for a more defined vision.
The president noted that the team is now reimagining the project with a revised vision, aiming to better meet gamer demands.
Trend of Key Recruitment
This announcement echoes a comparable action taken by the publisher in the summer, when they hired an industry veteran from Blizzard to work on the BioShock development group.
Here is the full text from Ismailer's communication:
Hello Everyone—
I know you all just finished your meeting - I hope you’re as enthusiastic as I am with the recent updates. Last time I shared you all a update, I expressed the following: “I believe in this group. You all are some of the most motivated and innovative creators we have had the pleasure to collaborate with - and we’re excited for that partnership to persist.”
With your dedication and flexibility, especially over the last year, you continue to prove that.
The community feedback from last fall’s Project ETHOS demo was revealing. It validated the potential of a action-packed game but told us we still had work to do. It uncovered the necessity for a clearer vision.
The progress is encouraging to see how far you’ve come. You embraced the feedback to mind and overhauled Project ETHOS with a refreshed goal - one that’s positioned to fulfill its ambition to our fans.
The belief in this project strengthens every day. To advance the incredible advancement you’ve made, I am thrilled to introduce Ben Brinkman as the latest Studio Head of the team. After a period of conversations, he starts with us on the specified date.
Ben’s guidance and expertise in the PVP shooter space is vast, having spent the last 15 years producing and leading some of the most popular titles in gaming, such as the acclaimed shooter, and most recently, Apex Legends.
Please join me in welcoming Ben next week. We are all excited to continue seeing the progress of Project ETHOS in the months to come.
The President
Experience of the New Head
Brinkman currently serves in the position of executive producer and production lead at Respawn Entertainment for their flagship title. He previously worked at major gaming companies in multiple production roles on the Call of Duty games, and, prior to that, had assignments at 2K and Electronic Arts.
Title Details and Concept
The upcoming game was unveiled in last year together with a community playtest. Then, 31st Union presented the title as a "no-cost, third-person perspective action-packed experience and an exciting step forward on the style."
"Build your perfect run—or die trying—in this 3rd-person action shooter! Build your hero in live gameplay to fit your unique tactics," the official summary reads. "Face the opponents with new abilities, challenges, and tests that shift every round. Will you leave securely with your hard-earned loot? Or go big, gamble everything, and pray your group can achieve the highest spot? The decision is up to you."
Project Ethos lacks an announced release date or platforms, but enthusiasts can expect more updates as development continues.
